Jedi Robe: by Rafael Costa Guerra

New addition to Rafael's robe

Please note that English is not my first language, so just ignore any possible English misspelling problems. Even Jedi Master Yoda had problems with foreign languages.

Enough said, let's start!!

-FABRIC- First of all you must look for the material you want. I am from Brazil, living in Florida now so I couldn't use anything really hot (my body wouldn't accept!). I don't have any idea what is the name of the fabric I got but it's something like jeans, a little bit lighter. (BROWN, of course).

Go to the fabric store with a printed copy of IMAGE ONE and ask some help about the fabric and how many feet/meters to buy. I got 6 meters (18 feet) because I haven't had any contact with this kind of things before. Better waste some bucks than waste your time comming and going to the Fabric store.

-SIZE- the easiest way to define the size of your robe is very simple: TRY IT! get the Fabric, fold in the middle, make a hole in the center and see how much you will need to cut out. (IMAGE TWO A and IMAGE TWO B )

-DESIGN- Designing a robe is not that hard. if you see those fashion shows in Paris none of the stylists are Ph.D. in Engeneering. If they can do it, YOU CAN DO IT. All I did was getting my scissors, a sheet of paper and started trying some ideas.

As you can see on the IMAGE ONE, Obi Wan's robe has the sleeves added to the main part. I couldn't do that (too hard for me). Take a look on FIGURE TWO (A & B),IMAGE THREE and IMAGE FOUR to have an idea of my design.

Once you have your fabric cut, all you have to do is sew under your arms and both sides (following the black line on IMAGE FOUR)

-HOOD- Nothing better to show you how I did the hood than the paper model as shown on IMAGES 1-2-3-4.Take a look on IMAGE FIVE and SIX. To give you an idea about the size, take a look on IMAGE SEVEN.

That's it, now put it all together. When you finish, open the front ( I opened the front before add the hood, but my friend did everything before opening and I think it was a good idea). IMAGE_EIGHT.(Hope you don't have big ears as Yoda)

Good luck, May the Force be with you and please let me know how it works for you.

Rafael C. Guerra

PS: I just created the Brown robe used over the rest of the outfit. I am wearing a Brazilian Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Kimono inside and I don't have any idea on how to create something like that. Just go to any karate/Tae-Ken-Do/whatevermartialartsyouwant and see if they have something like that. Don't forget the Brown T-Shirt inside.;)
